Compact Fluorescent Lamps

A typical household spends about $110 per year or 10 – 15 percent of its annual electric bill on lighting. Much of this is wasted on inefficient incandescent bulbs.

Benefits of Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs):

• Energy Star qualified CFLs use 75 percent less energy than incandescent bulbs.
• CFLs have light quality closest to daylight.
• CFLs are ideal where lights are on for long periods.
• CFLs last as long as 7-10 incandescent bulbs making them great for hard-to-reach places.
• Energy Star CFLs come in a variety of creative shapes, color temperatures, and brightness. There are even CFLs that are dimmable and some respond to motion sensors.
• Energy Star CFLs are great for cathedral ceiling fixtures, table lamps, recessed lighting fixtures, enclosed outdoor fixtures, and any application that is hard to reach.
• Energy Star CFLs are available from most leading lighting manufacturers.

In order to qualify for Missoula Electric Cooperative’s CFL program, CFLs must be Energy Star rated and be greater than 10 watts.

Missoula Electric is offering $2.50 per bulb for qualifying bulbs.

To receive the incentive, consumers must submit either in person or by mail to the utility the following:
1. a completed CFL Incentive form;
2. purchase receipt that includes the purchase date;
3. copy of packaging with Energy Star label.

CFL Incentive Forms will be available at the utility office front desk or
click here to download from the MEC website or by mail or fax upon request.

In addition, your two local ACE Hardware stores are participating in a CFL disposal program. If you need to dispose of compact fluorescent bulbs (or a limited number of 4’ fluorescent tubes), please take them to either Missoula ACE Hardware location.
